The world of waste

Inspiring the Next Generation: “The World of Waste” Workshop Sparks Interest in Sustainability Careers

Timed strategically on a Henrico County Public Schools student holiday, the workshop welcomed dozens of eager middle and high school students ready to explore what sustainability truly means—and how they can be part of the solution.

On Monday, September 22, Love to Share Foundation America, partnered with the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) to host “The World of Waste”—an interactive sustainability workshop at Twin Hickory Public Library in Glen Allen, VA.

Middle and high school students explored the importance of recycling and environmental responsibility through a hands-on mock waste sorting challenge .Many students were surprised at how often everyday items are improperly disposed of and how much trash each of us generate everyday, leaving the session more confident in their ability to recycle the right way. Participants also left with practical skills and a renewed awareness of how their daily choices impact the environment. Events like this reflect LTSFA’s mission to educate and inspire the next generation to become a thoughtful, environmentally conscious leader.

A highlight of the event was a talk by Bentley Chan, Director of Public Utilities for Henrico County, who shared how the county manages clean water access and why public service roles in sustainability are vital for the future.

LTSFA extends heartfelt thanks to the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority, Henrico County Department of Public Utilities, and all volunteers and families who made this workshop possible. Together, we are planting the seeds for a more sustainable future.
