Together for a Sustainable Future
LTSFA Volunteers Champion Sustainability and Community Care at RVA Mend & Share Fair
On April 25, 2026, volunteers from the Virginia chapter of the Love to Share Foundation America participated in the Repair Café RVA “Mend & Share Fair” held at Yaupon Place and Union Presbyterian Seminary. Despite rainy weather, the vibrant community event brought together residents, volunteers, and local organizations in support of sustainability, skill-sharing, and collective community care.
Promoting Sustainability Through Repair and Reuse
The fair focused on reducing waste and encouraging sustainable living through hands-on repair services and community resource sharing. Skilled local experts offered free repairs for a variety of household items, including bicycles, electronics, textiles, jewelry, and furniture. Beyond fixing items, attendees also gained valuable practical knowledge by learning repair techniques directly from onsite specialists.
A major highlight of the event was the “Free Swap,” which promoted a circular economy by encouraging community members to donate quality pre-owned items and take what they needed. Volunteers carefully organized thousands of donated goods — ranging from clothing to household essentials — ensuring that items found new homes instead of ending up in landfills.
Strengthening Community Connections
In addition to repair and sharing initiatives, the fair created a welcoming space for families and neighbors to connect. Guests enjoyed educational workshops, tours of Shalom Farms, local food trucks, and family-friendly activities, including a large inflatable slide for children. The event successfully combined environmental responsibility with community engagement in a fun and meaningful atmosphere.
Volunteer Dedication at the Heart of the Event
The success of the Mend & Share Fair was made possible through the dedication and teamwork of LTSFA volunteers. From managing thrift stations under the blue tents to coordinating guest registrations and assisting attendees throughout the day, volunteers played a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the event. Community partners praised the team for their enthusiasm, professionalism, and exceptional organizational efforts.
Through their service and commitment, LTSFA volunteers demonstrated the power of community collaboration in building a more sustainable, caring, and connected future.
