My LTSFA Journey: Giving, Serving, and Connecting - Geetha Muthuswamy
When I moved to Florida after living in New Jersey for many years, I was grateful for the opportunity to start a new chapter in life. One of the most meaningful parts of that journey has been discovering LTSFA and becoming part of a community that believes in togetherness, service, and giving back.
As a family, we have always believed in helping those in need and contributing to society in whatever way we can. LTSFA has given us a beautiful opportunity to put those values into action, while sharing meaningful experiences with others and making a positive difference in our community. What makes this journey even more special are the wonderful people and mentors I have had the privilege of meeting along the way, especially Ramuji, Poornima ji, and Lekshmi ji, whose guidance, kindness, and encouragement have been truly inspiring.
We have especially enjoyed being part of our family get-togethers, where we come together for meditation, yoga, drawing activities for children, and fun games for both kids and adults. These gatherings may seem simple, but they create wonderful memories and give families a chance to slow down, connect, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.
The monthly walkathons have also been a wonderful experience. I love how they bring people together around something as simple and important as health and well-being. Our Mother's Day walkathon at the public park was particularly special, combining family, fitness, and celebration in such a beautiful way.
One initiative that is especially close to my heart is our monthly sandwich drive in partnership with HSCF. Preparing and distributing sandwiches to people experiencing homelessness has reminded me that making a difference doesn't always require something big. Sometimes, a small act of kindness, a helping hand, or simply taking the time to care can mean so much to someone else.
Through LTSFA, I have realized that volunteering is not only about giving—it is also about what we receive in return. The friendships, smiles, shared experiences, and feeling of being part of a caring community have enriched my life in ways I did not expect.
I feel fortunate that our journey to a new state led us to LTSFA. What started as a search for community has become a meaningful connection for my family and me—one that allows us to connect, serve, give back, and grow together. I look forward to continuing this journey and finding many more ways to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
